Welcome Not So Little One!
The Backstory
I am so excited to announce the arrival of CS (pronounced kiss) into our little family! When hubby and I decided to adopt, we spent time visiting online adoption centres, trying to learn as much as we could before making a decision to ensure that whichever one we focused on would be a good fit for our household. Once we narrowed it down to our top two choices, we ventured into the adoption store to learn more, and to try to get a more personal feel. When we arrived, we looked over the two we were interested in but our eyes were drawn to another. She was bigger than we were considering but, once we laid eyes on her, our hearts were stolen.
When hubby picked her up, he couldn't put her back down. He cradled her carefully while I signed the adoption papers and paid the adoption fees.
Hubby lovingly placed her in the car and the three of us were off to start a new life together.
When we arrived at home, we carefully unwrapped her so we could place her in her new room. The room needs a lot of work, but she didn't seem to mind.
Since then, I have been studying a lot on how to take care of her. We have been playing together a lot. She is a noisy one but who can resist those sounds of happiness! She is cute and sassy and completely and utterly adorable.
I plan to document everything...her ups and downs...as we spend a lifetime getting to know each other. I look forward to our journey together and I hope you do too.
Here's a photo of CS's birth announcement.
I added a white backing to begin with.

What I Learned
Setup Learnings:
Pressure: I'm still playing with the pressure settings as it still pushes a little too much on some parts of my image when cutting and pushes the vinyl into the backing. I will be trying pressure 6 next time.
Layout Learnings:
Lining things up: I thought it would be super cute to have the red and black striped line. Sure...sure it was until I had to try to layer it. I even added two little rectangles that I cut out in each color to help with lining up. My middle line came out pretty good but you can definitely see where the top and bottom lines are not lined up properly.
Designing Learnings:
Drawing Lines: I traced out the image of the Cameo Pro in Inkscape. I drew the lines and made them thicker to reflect the thickness I was looking for. When I imported the design into Silhouette Studio Business Edition, I didn't notice any issues. When I sent it to cut, however, it literally cut the lines...not the outline of the lines, like I thought it would. I went back to Inkscape and remade the image so that each line would cut as I wanted it to.
Putting It Together Learnings:
Transfer Tape: I was being cheap and using a larger piece I already had. I don't have a lot of transfer tape right now and didn't want to cut up my large piece. This was a bad choice on my part. The extra length kept getting in my way. In fact, it caused me to wreck my cameo picture so I ended up having to recut it. Luckily, I had to recut it anyways because of my aforementioned lines issue.
