Save vinyl when cutting by using the Basic and Advanced Nesting Features of Silhouette Studio

Image
I hate wasting vinyl. When I'm ready to cut an image that has empty spaces, I'll often add in little sayings I'll add to wine glasses later.  However, I discovered the basic nesting feature, which is available in all but the free  version of Silhouette Studio, and the advanced nesting feature which is available only in the Business edition. The nesting feature will allow you to move images and text around on your screen so that you waste as little vinyl as possible.  I use this in conjunction with the layers feature which is another option that appears in any of the upgrades, but not the free version of Silhouette Studio. Disclaimer: My computer has 12 Gb of RAM and my processer is a little better than the minimum requirements. However, the advanced nesting feature sometimes crashes my computer. This happens if the file is too big, if I have other programs open, if I haven't restarted my computer, etc. So, save often!  The video above will walk you throu...

Beginner Tutorial 2: Installing Fonts on a Windows 10 Computer

As I scroll through the many Facebook groups I am a member of, I notice a lot of questions about installing fonts. I thought I would make a quick video explaining the process and sharing one of my favorite websites that provides free fonts and svgs.  Creative Fabrica is great because you can download fonts and svgs for free and they even include a commercial license! As always, make sure to read the license to determine what that means for you. Don't assume that a commercial license means you have free reign.  Each company has their own version of it. I love that Creative Fabrica is very clear about what you can and can not do with their digital products. The video above will walk you through the entire process but I wanted to summarize the main ideas here. When you download a font, it will be zipped (compressed). You must unzip the file before you can install the font.  Windows 10 machines have the ability to unzip one file at a time. Just right click on the zip...

Beginner Tutorial 1: Loading Vinyl

The Backstory: Before I made my first cut with my Silhouette Cameo 4 Pro, actually before I even bought it, I spent a fair amount of time watching YouTube videos. I wanted to find out where other people struggled and learn how to deal with that before I even attempted to cut my first piece of vinyl. I found it fascinating to see people share their struggles with cutting - mats sliding, cuts not going through the vinyl, etc.  In my perfectly imperfect video, I will share what I have learned about setting up my machine to cut vinyl on my new Silhouette Cameo 4 Pro. Most of these ideas will work on any of the Silhouette Cameos or other machines. This video only focuses on setting up the machine. It does not walk you through setting up your computer nor does it help with cut settings. What tips and tricks do you have for preparing your Silhouette Cameo 4 Pro, or other machine, for cutting? Please share in the comments! Transcript from the Video:   00:05 Step 1: Install the b...
